Marg is an app made by Margapp, an independent developer project. The app is made for iPhone and Android, and is designed as a reading companion for people who want to save quotes and words while they read.
We don't collect any personal data. Marg has no:
All content you create in Marg is stored locally on your phone using the device's standard storage mechanism:
Marg asks for the camera when you use it: to photograph a book page to save a quote, to look up a word from a photo, to scan a book's barcode, to take a picture of a book's cover, or to scan a friend's code when you trade margins. Marg can also open your photo library, but only to the picture you pick yourself.
Photos of pages are used only for text recognition on the device itself. They are not stored, not sent to any server, and not used for anything else. A cover photo you choose is saved on your device as that book's cover, and nowhere else.
When you trade margins, your phone shows a code that your friend scans with their camera, and the other way round. Nothing goes through the internet or through any server: it travels only from one screen to the other camera.
The code contains only:
Your friend's quotes are saved only on your phone, and you can remove them from a book at any time.
The app uses the internet for three things:
These are publicly available services and receive only the search terms you type. We have no affiliation with them beyond standard API usage.
Marg uses the following third-party library for on-device text recognition:
Marg does not collect data from any users, including children. The app is not specifically directed at children under 13.
If we make changes to this privacy policy, the updated version will be published on this page with a new date. Since Marg doesn't collect data, this is unlikely to change significantly.
